THE BEGINNING
It has been said that fashion just like history repeats itself.... If this be true, this dream or a "DeJaVu" moment of being a trendsetting fashion designer came to life in August of 2013. DJ Boyd, owner of DeJaBo Designs started this business just as an idea to make a few bow ties for himself once he couldn't find anything that fit his taste. Having no major connections to the fashion industry at the time but a burning desire to create this business, he consulted his mother, Mrs. Sylvia Whitener, a dynamic seamstress who has been in the fashion industry for over 25 years and owner of her own Sewing and Alterations business over 10 years. He started DeJaBo Ties by taking the custom orders and shipping the material to his mom to make them. With the distance of her living in South Carolina, the turn around time became a challenge. Eager to make the dream a reality as an entrepreneurs, he converted an office space in his home to a "sewing shop" - purchasing equipment, fabric and all necessities for making / packaging and shipping orders. As they say, the rest has been history.... continuing to evolve into being better and offering great custom items.
THE NAME
As a unique brand, so is the name DeJaBo. As for mentioned, the idea felt so natural for business owner DJ Boyd to where he often said to himself, "it feels like I've done this before". The "dejavu-ness" of it all inspired the concept for the name. In a more personal approach, the name "DeJaBo" was formed with taking the first two letters of each part of DJ's name (DeVona Jaworski Boyd).
THE MISSION
It is my personal desire to offer the best quality of products for my clients to enjoy. Taking pride in the items being made in the USA, and all handcrafted, there is a certain authentic texture to every item. Many times, I created items from various fabrics that are either out of print or found from vintage shopping and repurposed, so often they are one of a kind. We do stand by our products. We want any DeJaBo client to enjoy their purchased items. We have a mission to give back especially to young men in helping them understand the importance of style and how to portray themselves in a positive image. DeJaBo Ties has donated over a 100 bow ties in the first year to community projects including Charlotte schools, after school programs and mentoring initiatives, and continues to seek opportunities to give back. They have been privileged to have some big names in music, politics, and professional sports to represent the DeJaBo brand.
THE FUTURE
None of us can predict the future, however we do endeavor to keep striving to grow as a business. All of their items are made in Charlotte, NC and currently four boutiques in the Carolinas offer our items. Of course, you can purchase directly from our website, but we often attend conferences / events to market and offer products. We offer our services to the individual person or also groups, organizations, teams, choirs, fraternities and beyond. It is our goal to become a household name in the Men's Accessories area offering much more than just ties but anything that can be accessorized. When you get a DeJaBo product you can be guaranteed that it has been personally made with attention to detail. We want to continue to offer unique items therefore we are constantly striving to deepen our knowledge in the area of accesories. So stay "tied" to us as we strive to offer affordable custom items that you can enjoy for years to come!
